The New Orleans Saints played their butts off offensively and on special teams last night, but they fell a yard short of possibly sending the game to O.T.  Drew Brees drove the Saints all the way to the Packers’ 1-yard line for 1 untimed play.  He then handed off to rookie RB Mark Ingram and he got stuffed.  Still, kudos to Drew Brees for never quitting in this game, as the Packers were hard to keep up with last night.  Drew Brees completed 32 of 49 passes for 419 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs in this game.  Mark Ingram led the way on the ground for the Saints with 40 yards rushing on 13 carries (3.1 ypc) in his NFL debut.  Pierre Thomas was solid when he was on the field as he carried the ball 5 times for 31 yards (6.2 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 37 yards (9.3 avg).  Darren Sproles made a huge positive impression in his first game with the Saints.  He carried the ball 2 times for 7 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 7 passes for 75 yards (10.7 avg) last night.  He was also electric in the return game as he returned 2 punts for 92 yards (46.0 avg) with a 72-yard TD return and he also returned 2 kickoffs for 76 yards (38.0 avg) for the Saints.  WRs Devery Henderson (6 rec, 100 yards, TD), Marques Colston (5 rec, 70 yards, TD) and Robert Meachem (5 rec, 70 yards, TD) led the way for the Saints in the passing attack.  TE Jimmy Graham also had a good game for the Saints with 4 grabs for 56 yards (14.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Saints finished up this game with 81 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 32 of 49 passes (65.3%) for 396 yards as they had possession of the ball for 27:06.

The Saints’ D had a rough time trying to stop Aaron Rodgers and his buddies last night.  Safety Roman Harper led the way for the Saints’ D with 9 tackles, 1/2 a sack and 1 QB hit.  CB Jabari Greer (7 tackles and 1 pass defensed) had a rough time dealing with Greg Jennings.  LB Jonathan Vilma pitched in with 7 tackles.  The Packers finished up with 103 yards on 27 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 35 passes (77.1%) for 296 yards.  The Saints might have done well in the return game on special teams but all wasn’t good as Randall Cobb of the Packers scored a TD on a 108-yard kickoff return.  The Saints are now 0-1 on the season.
