The Saints have signed 27-year old linebacker Clint Ingram to a 1-year deal.  Ingram played in 13 games for the Jaguars last season in which he had 52 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 sack.  He has now played in 56 games in his NFL career in which he has 194 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 4 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble and he intercepted 2 passes (1 returned for a TD).  This was a good depth signing for the Saints.

The New Orleans Saints pick QB Sean Canfield in the 7th round

The Saints have picked QB Sean Canfield out of Oregon State with the 239th overall pick (7th round) of the NFL Draft.  Canfield is a soft tossing lefty as he can’t really drive the ball down the field despite having nice size.  Canfield is 6′3″, 221 pounds and he can run a 4.95 40.  He played in 13 games (all starts) for the Beavers last season in which he completed 303 of 446 passes (67.9%) for 3,271 yards with 21 TD passes and 7 INTs.  He played in 37 games (24 starts) in his four years at Oregon State in which he completed 554 of 861 passes (64.3%) for 5,970 yards with 38 TD passes and 26 INTs.  The Saints will try to develop Canfield as a backup QB but he will likely be the #3 guy in 2010.

The New Orleans Saints pick center Matt Tennant in the 5th round

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by admin on Tuesday 11 May 2010 at 9:34 am

The Saints have picked center Matt Tennant out of Boston College with the 158th overall pick (5th round) of the NFL Draft.  The Saints thought so much of Tennant that they traded up to pick him.  He is 6′4″, 290 pounds and he’s athletic enough to get out on linebackers or to pull on traps.  He is also a good long snapper.  Unlike most centers though it doesn’t appear that he is strong enough to play guard which is why he dropped to the 5th round.  Tennant played in 13 games (all starts) at Boston College last season and he played in 46 games (41 starts) in his four years there.  This was a solid pick for the Saints as Tennant could be the starting center of the future for them.

The New Orleans Saints pick DT Al Woods in the 4th round

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by admin on Tuesday 11 May 2010 at 9:28 am

The Saints have picked DT Al Woods out of LSU with the 123rd overall pick (4th round) of the NFL Draft.  Woods certainly looks the part as he is 6′3″, 312 pounds.  Woods only has one year of starting experience so he still has a lot to learn about playing DT.  He can handle the double team which is probably the most exciting part of his game as he frees the linebackers to flow to the ball.  Woods played in 13 games (all starts) for LSU last season and he had 33 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, he had 1 sack and he has batted down two passes.  Woods played in 41 games (17 starts) in his four years in college and he finished up with 63 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, he had 3.5 sacks, batted down 2 passes and he has recovered 3 fumbles.  If Woods is a quick learner he could be starting for the Saints some time in his rookie season.
