The New Orleans Saints sign CB Randall Gay

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big New Orleans Saints News, General by admin on Sunday 2 March 2008 at 3:11 pm

The Saints have signed CB Randall Gay to a 4-year, $17.6 million dollar contract.  Gay played in 16 games last season for the Patriots and he made 37 tackles, defensed 7 passes, forced 1 fumble and picked off 3 passes.  Gay has now played in 39 games in his NFL career and he has made 85 tackles, defensed 14 passes, forced 1 fumble and intercepted 5 passes.  This is a large leap of faith by the Saints as Gay has been a backup most of his NFL career.

I think that was a good move because we need help in the secondary. I think we need 1 strong corner that we may be able to pick up in the draft, but overall this was a good move.

They needed help in the secondary Bobby but Gay is a really little guy who might not be able to hold up as a starter.

I live in New England at the moment, but I am from New Orleans (Saints Fan). I see how much the New England fans are upset at Gay leaving them. I have watched him here and I think that he will be a great addition to the team. He may be little, but he is a play maker. Saints 11-5 this year.

Sorry to bust your bubble guys…Im a big patriots fan and have watched Gay’s whole career since he was signed as a undrafted rookie. He is a great third corner for any team but I think your pushing it if hes your starting corner next year.
Hes No playmaker, he isnt durable, and I think the Saints really overpaid to sign him.
I love Randall and wish him the best but I wouldnt feel confident if he was my starting corner.
