The New Orleans Saints have signed 37-year old QB Mark Brunell to a 2-year contract.  He didn’t get in a game last season for the Redskins as he was third on the depth chart.  He has now played in 157 games in his NFL career and he has completed 2,738 of 4,594 passes (59.6%) for 31,826 yards with 182 TD passes and 106 interceptions (84.2 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 509 times for 2,433 yards (4.8 ypc) with 15 TD runs.  Brunell might not have too much left so the Saints better hope that Drew Brees stays healthy.

The New Orleans Saints sign LB Dan Morgan

The Saints have signed linebacker Dan Morgan to a 1-year contract.  This is a good gamble by the Saints as Morgan is a very talented football player who has had issues with concussions in the past.  If he’s healthy the Saints have a steal on their hands.  Morgan played in 3 games last season for the Panthers and he made 22 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  He has now played in 59 games in his NFL career and he has made 390 tackles, defensed 17 passes, has 7 sacks, forced 3 fumbles and intercepted 5 passes.

The New Orleans Saints sign DE Bobby McCray

The Saints have signed DE Bobby McCray to a 5-year, $20 million dollar deal.  McCray played in 14 games last season for the Jaguars and he made 18 tackles, defensed 2 passes, sacked the QB 3 times and he forced a fumble.  He has now played in 61 games in his NFL career and he has 94 tackles, defensed 5 passes, has 22 sacks and he has forced 7 fumbles.  It appears that the Saints overpaid again for a player who has had only one good season in his career.

The New Orleans Saints sign CB Randall Gay

The Saints have signed CB Randall Gay to a 4-year, $17.6 million dollar contract.  Gay played in 16 games last season for the Patriots and he made 37 tackles, defensed 7 passes, forced 1 fumble and picked off 3 passes.  Gay has now played in 39 games in his NFL career and he has made 85 tackles, defensed 14 passes, forced 1 fumble and intercepted 5 passes.  This is a large leap of faith by the Saints as Gay has been a backup most of his NFL career.

The New Orleans Saints acquire linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the Jets

The Saints have acquired linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the New York Jets for a conditional 4th round pick that could improve based on Vilma’s play.  Vilma played in 7 games last season for the Jets and he made 43 tackles, defensed 4 passes and picked one off.  Vilma has now played in 55 games in his NFL career and he has made 441 tackles, defensed 19 passes, had 2.5 sacks, forced 5 fumbles and has intercepted 6 passes including one that he returned for a TD.  This was an outstanding move for the Saints as Vilma is a impact player.
