Olindo Mare to take over the kicking chores for the New Orleans Saints

The Saints traded for Olindo Mare for two reasons.  1.) He can nail long field goal attempts and 2.) He will handle all of the kickoffs so that the Saints don’t have to waste a roster spot on someone that just kicks the ball off.  Mare made 72.2% of his field goals last season for the Dolphins and he converted all 22 of his extra points to finish the season with 100 points.  Mare made 16 of 18 kicks of 39 yards or less and he made 10 for 18 of 40+ yards.

Mare has now played in 155 career NFL games and he has scored 1,048 points which is an average of 6.8 points per game.  Mare has nailed 245 of 303 (80.9%) field goal attempts and he has made 313 of 318 extra points.
