Saints outlast Browns 19-14
The New Orleans Saints started the season off well today. The defense was swarming and the backs were running all over the Browns defense. Drew Brees managed the game well, and threw effectively. For the game Brees completed 17 of 31 passes (54.8%) for 176 yards with a TD and one interception. RB Deuce McAllister ran well, carrying the ball 22 times for 90 yards (4.1 ypc). Reggie Bush had a excellent start to his NFL career. Bush carried the ball 14 times for 61 yards (4.4 ypc) and caught 8 passes for 58 yards (7.3 avg). Rookie WR Marques Colston caught 4 passes for 49 yards (12.3 avg) and a TD.
The defense played a great football game. The D was thought to be a weakness of the team, but you would never think that after watching this game. The run defense held the Browns to 85 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.9 ypc). The Browns connected on 59.3% of their passes, but only netted 101 yards passing. Bullocks and Fujita both picked off a pass from Frye.
The Saints played a complete game and Coach Payton has to be happy to start his career 1-0.

We can only hope the win bodes better than last year’s opening day victory. There are no hurricanes in the Gulf and Green Bay is vulnerable: with some more good luck (bearing in mind the Browns beat themselves for us with penalties and odd play calls), Saints could hit the emotional Monday night homecoming 2-0; with a few good bounces and an inspired performance against Atlanta’s running game, they could stand as good a chance as anyone of stumbling into the playoffs as anyone. Perhaps this is the year the team will build and improve, instead of the nearly-annual tailspin.
Great to see the win, and to win it with good defense. Brian Young looked great. The offense controlled the ball and looked really balanced. Cant wait to see this team gel and get acclamated with each other. If New Orleans gets back home 2-0 and win a sure to be emotional game (Can”t wait for this game), this team might really do some damage in the NFC South. Look out for the WhoDats!!!
I’ve been a fan for all 36 years and I have never saw the saints play so good as yesterday. Living now in San Antonio I had to get Direct TV and The sunday ticket to see them play, best money I’ve ever spend. My family are still down on Dumaine St. live it up after the saints game on sunday and yesterday was the big party in years. Thank you boys for the great win. GO SAINTS GO beat GREEN BAY
It all depends on the Saints defense. The offense will be good.
