Rookie WR Marques Colston is now a starter

Rookie Marques Colston is now a starter as he has passes Devery Henderson on the depth chart.  This is kind of sad for Devery Henderson who played at LSU to drop an egg on the Saints face with his lousy play.

Current Saints odds

The over/under for Saints wins is 7.  The Saints are 80-1 to win the Super Bowl and 33-1 to win the NFC.

I suggest you leave your money in your pocket.  My projections put the Saints right on 7 wins for the year.

Saints acquire LB Mark Simoneau from Eagles

The Saints traded WR Donte’ Stallworth to the Eagles for LB Mark Simoneau and a 4th round pick (the pick could be a third-rounder if Stallworth performs well.).  The trade opens up the offense even more for rookie Reggie Bush, who could line-up at wide-out as much as he does at running back.  This move also puts alot of faith in Devery Henderson, who will have to step up now that he will be a starter.

Mark Simoneau will join the weak linebacking corps of the Saints.  He can play inside or outside.  It’s possible that he could be a starter or a reserve, that will depend on how he performs the next 2 weeks.  Simoneau has played in 91 games and has made 289 tackles, has 4 sacks and has defensed 13 passes.

Turnovers kill the Saints in 27-14 loss

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 27 August 2006 at 9:44 am

If not for the turnovers Saturday night, the Saints might have beaten the Colts.  The QBs combined to throw 3 pick-offs which was the only thing stopping the Saints.  Drew Brees completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards, but he threw 2 pick-offs.  Jamie Martin completed 6 of 9 passes for 75 with a TD and an INT.

The running game looked fantastic.  Deuce McAllister ran the ball 6 times for 62 yards (10.3 ypc) and a TD.  Reggie Buch had 5 carries for 22 yards (4.4 ypc) and caught 5 passes for 20 yards.  Jamal Branch ran the ball 3 times for 33 yards and caught 2 passes for 25 yards.

The Saints played great defense against the run, holding the Colts to 60 yards on 38 carries, for an average of 1.6 yards per carry!  The Colts passed well against the Saints though.  The Colts completed 56.1% of their passes for a net of 296 yards passing.

Todd Bouman rising to the challenge

The Saints brought in veteran QB Jamie Martin to challenge Bouman for the #2 spot in training camp.  As camp started, it seemed like both would have a 50/50 shot to get the job.  Bouman stepped us his play in the pre-season and almost has the position locked up.  Bouman has completed 18 of 24 passes (75.0%) for 194 yards and a TD, his QB rating is currently 112.2.

Jamie Martin hasn’t looked to good in the pre-season.  He has completed 13 of 22 passes (59.1%) for 143 yards, but he has thrown two pick-offs.  His QB rating is 40.5.
